US President-elect Biden will be sworn in on Wednesday (January 20). The FBI is conducting security checks on the 25,000 National Guard members sent to Washington to protect the inauguration from potential internal attacks. Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy told the Associated Press that he and other leaders have not seen any evidence of threats, and so far, the review has not found any problems with these National Guard members.
McCarthy said: "We are constantly advancing the inspection process and conducting the second and third inspections of everyone assigned to participate in this operation." McCarthy said that intelligence shows that some external organizations organized armed gatherings before the inauguration.
Two weeks after the outgoing President Trump’s thousands of supporters stormed into the U.S. Capitol, the inauguration ceremony is about to take place, and security issues are more concerned than ever. Trump had urged his supporters to march to the Capitol when lawmakers met on January 6 to confirm Biden's victory. The area around the Capitol has actually become an armed camp, surrounded by fences and barbed wire. Authorities also closed the National Mall, as well as roads and subway stations in most of downtown Washington. The bridge from Virginia to Washington was also closed. Thousands of National Guard members and law enforcement personnel are stationed throughout the area to prevent further violence. Despite increasing security issues, Biden plans to hold an inauguration ceremony in a traditional location.
Kate Bedingfield, who will be the director of the White House Office of Communications and Liaison, told ABC’s This Week program: “Our plan and expectation is that President-elect Biden will be in Accompanied by his family, he placed his hands on the Bible on the west side of the Parliament Building on the 20th. (sworn in)" She said that the Biden team "completely trusts the U.S. Secret Service and its partners. They have been working to ensure the safety of (the inauguration) for more than a year."
President Trump refused to admit his defeat and refused to congratulate Biden, but he admitted that a "new administration" will come to power on Wednesday. President Trump ignores the 160-year tradition of the United States that the outgoing president participates in the oath of office of his successor to demonstrate the peaceful transfer of power. President Trump announced that he will not attend the inauguration ceremony. Vice President Pence plans to participate. President Trump plans to leave Washington on Wednesday morning to hold a red carpet ceremony as he boarded Air Force One to his Atlantic resort in Florida.
The House of Representatives impeached President Trump for the second time last week, accusing him of sedition, and the Senate trial will begin shortly after Biden takes office. Trump is the first US president to be impeached twice. If convicted, he may be barred from holding public office again. However, before President Trump leaves office, he is expected to pardon several people, who may be the main supporters of those convicted or facing trial. People familiar with the matter said Trump met with aides on Sunday to finalize a list of more than 100 pardons and sentence reductions to be announced before the end of his term. The White House adviser said that Trump had discussed pardoning himself and other family members first, and they were not charged with any crimes, but Trump is currently not expected to do so.
Bedingfield said on Sunday that Biden plans to paint a "positive and optimistic" vision for the United States in Wednesday's inauguration speech and "strive to turn the page of division and hatred under Trump over the past four years." . She said: "I think this is what the entire American people want. They want the government to focus again on doing the right thing for them and helping them in their daily lives."
Biden plans to quickly overthrow Trump's many policies after taking office. The incoming White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain (Ron Klain) said Saturday night that Biden “takes office as president at a moment when our country is facing a major crisis. We face four overlapping and complex crises: the new crown crisis, triggered by this Economic crisis, climate crisis, and racial equality crisis."
